Think you might like to try your hand at maintaining your own animals hooves?Well, here's the good news. If you are physically able to, and of the desire to, you CAN. I WOULD NOT expect you to be able to know how to trim a problem hoof for better form and function, or even starting with an initial trim. BUT, once your animals' hooves are healthy, and in good form to promote healthy hoof mechanism, you can begin to "maintain" their hooves. I will work with you individually, showing you how to rasp the hoof for maintenance. I will also show you how to know when you have issues effecting the back of the foot. i.e. frog, heels, quarter breakage etc..... Depending upon the condition of your horse, mule, donkey, mini, etc. hooves when we begin, will determine when the time will come that you will be able to maintain the hooves on your own. Your envirnment will play a big part in it as well. Barefoot hoof care is a commitment. If you want your equine friend to have tough hooves, it takes a little work and planning, and yes, most likely boots may be required. It is not "failure" to boot your equines hooves. You should not be embarrassed to ride in boots. Booting your horse or mules when you go for a ride on tough terrain is the safest, most humane way to protect their feet.
